Incident Report for Linode
Postmortem

On January 22, 2025 between approximately 19:45 and 20:18 UTC, Akamai was performing routine SSL certificate rotations on our Compute Route Server Infrastructure in the US-IAD Compute region. During this change, route servers were taken down in four batches and post-checks were run to ensure routes and peer counts remained the same post-change of each batch. We have identified that with each of these route server SSL certificate updates, a regression was triggered in another routing software component, removing routes temporarily from availability before being re-established. We have since mitigated the risk of this regression being triggered again by ensuring a healthy version of the affected software component has been deployed to all infrastructure utilizing the affected routing software in this rotation period.

This summary provides an overview of our current understanding of the incident given the information available. Our investigation is ongoing and any information herein is subject to change.
