On September 3, 2024, at 23:42 UTC, we detected an issue preventing users from logging into the Linode Cloud Community site using their Cloud Manager credentials. Despite the login issue, the site remained fully accessible for users in a logged-out state.
Initial investigations indicated a potential application issue, but further analysis uncovered that the problem was caused by certain IP addresses being blocked by Ghost, disrupting login traffic. Our team promptly whitelisted these IPs, restoring normal login functionality by 15:36 UTC on September 4, 2024.
We are actively continuing our root cause investigation to prevent such issues from recurring. Additionally, we are enhancing our IP management practices and refining our monitoring systems to detect and address such incidents more efficiently.
