On September 27, 2025, from 11:13 UTC to 12:19 UTC and from 14:00 UTC to 14:45 UTC, customers may have experienced timeouts and connectivity failures for traffic coming into and leaving out of India, impacting our Chennai and Mumbai regions.
Our investigation revealed that the issue is related to a repair process being conducted by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) to resolve an undersea cable cut that previously affected our customers (https://status.linode.com/incidents/7jk9ydm96rfk).
To minimize the impact on our customers, Akamai redirected the traffic to enhance performance wherever possible, while closely monitoring traffic conditions. After monitoring our systems for a period of time, we confirmed that the issue was mitigated at approximately 14:45 UTC on September 27, 2025.
The ISP has since taken down the impacted links, and it has confirmed that the traffic will be restored once the previously mentioned repair is completed. Akamai will continue to monitor our systems and collaborate with the ISP to get updates on the repair efforts.
This summary provides an overview of our current understanding of the incident given the information available. Our investigation is ongoing, and any information herein is subject to change.
